Beware the new epidemic coming after Corona - monkeypox |
Medical
history of monkeypox
The story of
this disease, which threatens to be the next epidemic after Corona, began when
a type of disease similar to smallpox spread twice in one of the colonies
studying monkeys.
The first
human case was recorded in 1970, during the fight against smallpox in the
Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Then the
disease re-emerged in Nigeria in 2017. The disease broke out in the United
States of America in 2003 after infecting 47 people in 6 states due to contact
with pet dogs, after harboring small mammals imported from Ghana.
The
original home of monkeypox
This new virus's original home began to be transmitted between humans. It is in central and western Africa near the tropical rainforests. There are two strains
of this disease, the Central African strain, and the West African strain.
Causes of
infection and ways of spreading monkeypox
1- Close contact
with the infected person, in clubs and public and crowded places. The virus may
be transmitted inside the human body through cracks in the skin, the
respiratory tract, eyes, or mouth.
2- The crusts that fall off after the ulcers have
healed, carry an infectious virus. Which can be inhaled as dust in the air.
When can monkeypox be called an epidemic?
If it resulted in a mortality rate of 1% of the outbreaks.
Usually, the infection is mild and disappears within a few weeks without medical
intervention. But the infection may be severe and lead to death, and deaths
have been recorded in West Africa.
What are the initial symptoms of monkeypox disease?
It is worth noting that the incubation period for this virus
ranges from 7 to 14 days. Its initial symptoms are similar to those of the flu.
1- high temperature
2- chills
3- headache
4- They are weak in
muscles and exhaustion
5- followed by swelling in the lymph nodes, due
to the body's readiness to fight the disease. This is what distinguishes
monkeypox from smallpox.
6- The last stage
of the appearance of a rash is pills containing liquid surrounded by red
circles. Widely applied to the face and body.
It can appear inside the mouth, in the soles of the hands and
feet, and even in the sexual areas. It is a painful pill, then it dries up and
peels off, and disappears within two to three weeks.
What is the treatment for monkeypox?
So far there is no cure for this disease. But there are
regular smallpox vaccines and vaccines that protect against infection by 85%.
Prevention of monkeypox
1- Not to mix with
animals in general. And let those animals live in their original habitat. Most
of the dangerous diseases were transmitted to humans through pets, and examples
of this are many, including rabies, bird flu, and many others. Or transferred
from humans to those animals.
2- Do not go
directly to the victim. Therefore, it is said that this disease is more
prevalent among homosexuals. Of course, this is a natural thing, because
everything that goes against common sense must bring serious diseases.
3- Personal hygiene and not being in crowded
places.
4- American research centers have proven that
household disinfectants kill the virus. Therefore, the house must be constantly
disinfected.
5- Isolate the injured from the healthy, and use
masks when dealing with the wounded. And disinfect hands with alcohol.
Finally, we quote this old saying
Treating without thinking about prevention is an unbearable
burden.” Bill Gates
